Project Insight
206ONE is a skate brand founded by my close friend and San Marcos local, Kenley Young. For this rebrand, my primary goal was to design a logo that is not only visually striking and capable of standing independently but also versatile enough to take on various iterations. This adaptability is a hallmark of successful skate brands, such as Thrasher, and I wanted 206ONE to embody that same flexibility. The visual identity is deeply rooted in the aesthetics of surveillance culture, drawing from the strange, liminal effects unique to analog hardware and software.
These visuals evoke a sense of raw imperfection that feels both haunting and captivating. Additionally, the brand incorporates influences from niche internet trends, blending digital nostalgia with contemporary cultural touchpoints. Through this design, I aim to not only spotlight local talent but also celebrate the unconventional creativity of online subcultures that resonate with the skateboarding community.
